Manor Kilbride Blessing of the Graves will take place on Sunday 10th September at 2pm

The Bishop of Kildare & Leighlin, Denis Nulty, has invited families to a ‘Picnic in Punchestown’ on Sunday 27th August from 1pm til 6pm. The picnic is part of diocesan preparations for next year’s World Meeting of Families & is also an attempt to reach out to all families of the diocese & beyond to gather together for an event filled with fun, friendship and faith!
The official opening liturgy will be at 3pm led by Bishop Denis. Later he will lead a 4km fun walk around the race track; there will be face-painting, children’s disco, stilt walkers, a pet corner & lots of children’s activities & games.

There will be a display of UN vehicles from the nearby Curragh camp with military personnel on hand to share stories about the Irish contribution to the UN peace-keeping force.
Music for the event is being organised by Margaret Connaughton and Fr Liam Lawton & will include local choirs & some very special surprise guests including Irish country music star Derek Ryan & renowned Irish soprano Celine Byrne.
Admission to the event is completely free. People are asked to bring along their own picnic with a bit of extra food for a sharing table for those who maybe don’t have enough to eat.
Speaking ahead of the event Bishop Nulty said, “We all liked going on a family picnic years ago & think we don’t do enough of it now, because we spend more time on phones & on the internet & spend less quality time with one another. With this family picnic we want all families to feel welcome, this is an event for every age & its clear intention is to build up the sense that we are a Church out in the field. It’s a bringing together of people, all people, all families”

You can find out more about the picnic on & on social media by following the #picnicinpunchestown hashtag

Flooding of the Liffey Valley Exhibition at Blessington Library. At 10am on 3rd March 1940 the sluice gate diverting the River Liffey around the Poulaphouca Dam was closed and the Poulaphouca Reservoir began to fill.  6500 acres of land had been cleared to make way for the reservoir and 76 houses were lost to the floodwaters, including the entirety of the townland of Ballinahown.

For National Heritage Week, Blessington Library will host an exhibition from 21st August through to the 9th September. This exhibition will focus on the formation of Blessington Lake through the construction of Poulaphuca Reservoir and the flooding of the Liffey Valley in the 1940s. Local Archaeologist, Liz Gardner will give a talk on this fascinating time in the history of Poulaphuca and the lands submerged on Tuesday 22nd August at 7.30pm. This is an opportunity to hear some interesting facts  from the Folklore Collection and the Flooding of the Valley.

Don’t forget the importance of disabled parking bays around the town. Please think before you park and take a space a little further on and allow a disabled person the ease and ability to park and shop like anyone else. The message is simple, think before you park! There is a slogan in France which reads, "If you take my space then please take my disability too".

The Bethany Bereavement Support Group
is a voluntary parish based ministry which aims to help the bereaved and grieving. The name Bethany recalls the visit of Jesus to Mary and Martha on the death of their brother Lazarus. Although grieving is a natural process which can be helped by the sympathy and understanding of friends, sometimes one may need support to work through it in a positive way. Friends don’t always know how to help; they may be embarrassed by one’s grief; they may even avoid meeting one in the mistaken belief that a meeting may increase distress. It is quite normal to feel anger, guilt, fear and depression as well as the awful pain of loss. These feelings need to be expressed rather than repressed, to be talked out, cried out and put in some sort of perspective. It helps the healing process to talk with a trained listener and confront the very strong feelings associated with grief. Many Bethany members have themselves been bereaved. They are trained to listen with understanding. They accept those suffering loss as they are, and support them through the grieving process. Members of the Parish Bethany Group are available in the Parish Centre (rear of Parish Office) on the 1st Friday of each month from 10.00am to 11.00am and on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 8.00pm to 9.00pm. This is a free, confidential service.

Blessington Greenway is a new 'hidden gem' right on Dublin's doorstep. It links the historic town of Blessington with the Palladian mansion of Russborough House. It is virtually all 'off-road' and covers 6.5kms along the shores and through the forests adjacent to Blessington Lakes - ideal for a leisurely stroll or cycle. Plans are being prepared for the addition of a complete loop right around the lakes for a total of more than 40kms. Take a look at this video clip for a flavour of what's available and the potential that exists to create a major national and international tourism attraction in West Wicklow!
Tulfarris members actively supported a Greenway Golf Fundraising Classic a few months ago and now you can see the project that the funds are being spent on by clicking on the link below. If you like what you see could I ask you to 'share' the video with your friends through Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and so on. We are keen to let as many people as possible see what is there already and to keep up the momentum to complete the bigger project. So please enjoy and share.
